During the presentation, Anika shared the story behind SipSafe—from its beginnings as a pandemic-inspired idea to a patent-pending device now being piloted in public spaces. The council welcomed her proposal to install SipSafe at Kirkland City Hall, recognizing its potential to improve public health and hygiene. Anika’s presentation highlighted the importance of youth innovation in solving real-world challenges. Nov 17, 2022 - We’re thrilled to announce that SipSafe, the innovative touchless water dispenser retrofit created by teen entrepreneur Anika Joshi, won First Place at the 2022 Investor Sharks Northwest competition, hosted by the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce. Anika impressed judges with her vision, her presentation and their confidence in presenting the vision - make public water fountains safer and more hygienic - as comfortably as navigating questions related to numbers. After over 50 prototypes and 15 months of development, SipSafe is now a patent-pending product being used in real-world locations, including Kirkland City Hall, Lake Washington schools and local businesses. This win is a huge milestone for Anika and a testament to the power of youth-led innovation!
